Victoria’s Liberal and National parties have changed tack – and backed natural gas development.
Australia does not have much petrol – without recharge, storage would last only 2-3 weeks. If there was an interruption to imports, industry and consumers would be in serious strife, with rationing likely within a week.
Estimates of natural gas exports and domestic supply have simultaneously taken a turn for the better as producers have ramped up production in Queensland, South Australia and off the West Australian coast.
National small business administrator and advocate Kate Carnell has called on State and Territory governments to end their blockers to development of natural gas, predicting “dire consequences” if energy policies are not changed quickly.
