Some of Australia’s most experienced independent energy economics analysts came to a similar conclusion this week: the East Coast needs more gas; and current policy settings federally and in NSW/Victoria are not going to solve the problem of gas supply and rising electricity prices.
Estimates of natural gas exports and domestic supply have simultaneously taken a turn for the better as producers have ramped up production in Queensland, South Australia and off the West Australian coast.
National small business administrator and advocate Kate Carnell has called on State and Territory governments to end their blockers to development of natural gas, predicting “dire consequences” if energy policies are not changed quickly.
Australia urgently needs more natural gas supplies. This has been confirmed by the gas industry, manufacturers, the Federal Government, the Australian Consumer and Competition Council and in the recently published Finkel Review of Australia’s energy needs.
