An Australian outpost in the energy capital of the US

June 16th, 2014

As part of his  recent trade mission to the United States, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced the establishment of a permanent Australian Consulate-General in the US energy heartland of Houston.

With more than 3,700 energy companies headquartered in Houston, and around $2.5 billion worth of goods and services  in the sector exported to Australia every year, the move recognises the clear importance of the industry to the Australian and US economies.

It’s estimated that around 100 Australian companies have a presence in Houston – including BHP Billiton.
